This was the first of the two songs I wrote for my dad’s 90th birthday; as frequently happens, I got this one done and was worried he’d hate it, so wrote another, “Happy Birthday Paw” (already posted), which I also wasn’t too sure about. That one was mostly about how incredibly old he is now, while this one is about how much he swears when he plays golf (and includes a wealth of actual Bud Travis golf exclamations), so it was a real pick your poison situation. Being the subject of one of my songs, let alone two, can be a real mixed blessing, I’m afraid…
