If I get a better Christmas present than this recording this year, I'll be astounded. Shaun Wortis brought this one in; it's an old Nat King Cole tune that's worlds away from anything he usually does (he usually specializes in more rootsy soul and r 'n' b related fare with Slide, Gato Malo, and the Mardi Gras Voodoo Revue.) I almost died laughing during the rehearsal, mostly at Amy Fairchild's operatic flights, but damned if the Athol Thingerth don't get within spittin' distance of some sort of Disney chorale (or, at least, corral...) I know Shaun would want me to insert a disclaimer about the first verse, as the melody temporarily eluded him; still, a heroic, neo-White Prince-like effort... from the 2006 Boston edition of our annual Christmas Cavalcade Benefits for the Homeless (Johnny D's 12/14/2006)
